When Bùi Than came up free with the goalie in the 7th minute, the Thua Thien-Hue fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Bùi Than couldn't finish the play. In the 9th minute the ball was on its way in behind AC milan's goalkeeper Phùng Tuyet, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Phùng Tuyet took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lê Chi, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lê Chi in the 18th minute of play forced AC milan's goalkeeper Phùng Tuyet to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 21st play minutes Bùi Than shot 0-1, a short shot which went by Phùng Tuyet and just under the crossbar into goal. If Nguyễn Tuan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 31 played minutes AC milan got a freekick which was hit by Nguyễn Tuan. A collision led to AC milan getting a freekick after 32 minutes play. Huỳnh Xuan hit a great ball. Nguyễn Hung's late challenge caught a AC milan's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Nguyễn Hung helped the player get up and apologised. Nguyễn Hung hit a great freekick 35 minutes into the match. Phạm Loc showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Nguyễn Tuan, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. Lê Chi received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 37th minute. Phùng Tuyet tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Hoàng Lam recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 40th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Phùng Tuyet took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bùi Than, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Lê Chi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Nguyễn Hung got his second yellow card in the match during the 51st minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. Nguyễn Hung kicked well hit freekick during the 52nd minute of the match. When the match clock showed 53 minutes, the score became 1-1 when Nguyễn Tuan sped through Thua Thien-Hue's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Phạm Loc. The supporters of AC milan booed when Thua Thien-Hue was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 63 match minutes in a wonderful position. Trương Duc didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nguyễn Tuan in the 64th minute of play forced Thua Thien-Hue's goalkeeper Phạm Loc to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Hồ Lam came up free with the goalie in the 66th minute, the Thua Thien-Hue fans jumped to their feet. Bùi Than's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Phùng Tuyet read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 72nd minute of play. 82 minutes into the match, Thua Thien-Hue's goal looked a bit too open when Hoàng Lam came free, but Phạm Loc reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 85th minute Hoàng Lam shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Phạm Loc saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Bùi Than recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 86th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Phùng Tuyet made a fantastic save in the 90th minute, when Bùi Than sent off a good shot on target. After some careless play in the Thua Thien-Hue defense, Hoàng Lam kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Phạm Loc. The Thua Thien-Hue fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Phạm Loc should have stopped the shot.
