Trần Khoi's late challenge caught a Dien Bien's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Trần Khoi helped the player get up and apologised. In the 3rd minute, Trần Khoi hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Võ Dong might have been able to make a better finish in the 4th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Phan Tu. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Võ Dong ran back to his position shaking his head. Lê Xuan fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 6th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Phan Phuong having to interfere. Phan Tu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nguyễn Hieu Ngan in the 8th minute of the match. 10 minutes into the match, Dien Bien's goal looked a bit too open when Phạm Nam came free, but Phan Phuong reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Võ Dong had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 12th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 14th minute Võ Dong shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Phan Tu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Lê Hieu fell near the penalty area in the 18th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Dien Bien's protests and gave Lê Hieu a yellow card for diving instead. In the 18th match minute, Dien Bien was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lê Hieu to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Võ Dong in the 20th minute of play forced Quang Nam's goalkeeper Phan Tu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dien Bien were awarded a corner in the 33th minute after Quang Nam's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Trần Thuy took the corner. A very nice done corner allowed Nguyễn Phuong to score against Phan Tu in Quang Nam's goal. 0-1 after 33 minutes. In the 38thth minute of the game Phạm Nam who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Dien Bien's Phan Phuong was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Lê Xuan fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Phan Phuong having to interfere. Dien Bien's Phan Phuong played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Phạm Nam in the 41st minute of play. Lê Hieu kicked well hit freekick during the 43rd minute of the match. Lê Xuan could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 44th minute of the match, but Phan Phuong made a huge save. The audience thought a goal was coming when Lê Xuan got free with Phan Phuong in the 46th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Võ Dong in the 48th minute of play forced Quang Nam's goalkeeper Phan Tu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

When Võ Dong came up free with the goalie in the 77th minute, the Dien Bien fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Võ Dong couldn't finish the play. In the 85th minute Phạm Nam shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Phan Phuong saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Phan Phuong took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lê Xuan, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 90th minute Võ Dong shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Phan Tu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Võ Dong sent away a hard shot on goal in the 96th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Dien Bien's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
