A collision led to Cao Lanh getting a freekick after 3 minutes play. Dương Tấn Dũng hit a great ball. Đặng Duc fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nguyễn Hong having to interfere. Nguyễn Dung hit a great freekick 14 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 16th minute, Vương Hoai managed to get in a good position for a shot. Viet Nam's supporters rose to their feet, but Vương Hoai was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nguyễn Hong breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Nguyễn Hong made an important save on a dangerous shot by Đặng Duc in the 18th minute. Nguyễn Hong showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Vương Hoai in the 19th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nguyễn Quang Thanh in the 28th minute of play forced Viet Nam's goalkeeper Lê Lam to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Cao Lanh's Nguyễn Hong proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 33rd minute of the match, managed to save Cao Lanh from getting a goal against them. 35 minutes into the match, Viet Nam's goal looked a bit too open when Nguyễn Quang Thanh came free, but Lê Lam reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Trần Hanh struck a weak shot in the 39th minute. Lê Lam didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cao Lanh. After 46 minutes, Trần Nga mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Viet Nam and the Cao Lanh players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Viet Nam's Trần Nga got a free kick in the 46th minute. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The wind increased when Nguyễn Quang Thanh made the kick off in the second half. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Nguyễn Quang Thanh during the 54th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Đặng Duc sent away a hard shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Vương Hoai in the 57th minute of play forced Cao Lanh's goalkeeper Nguyễn Hong to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 61st minute the ball was on its way in behind Viet Nam's goalkeeper Lê Lam, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 65th minute, Viet Nam's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Trần Hanh fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. In the 69th minute, Trần Nga hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With his leg Lê Lam managed to avoid a goal in the 71stth minute, when Cao Lanh's Trần Hanh fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Trần Hanh blasted a shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Lê Lam having to make a save. Nguyễn Quang Thanh fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 74th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lê Lam having to interfere. Đặng Duc received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 77th minute. Nguyễn Hong tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Vương Hoai fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nguyễn Hong having to interfere. Nguyễn Hong showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Vương Hoai, who was totally free with the ball in the 81st minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Vương Hoai in the 83rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Nguyễn Hong saved Cao Lanh from getting behind. Trần Hanhs short, quick shot in the 88thth minute got Lê Lam to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Cao Lanh's Nguyễn Hong played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Đặng Duc in the 89th minute of play. In the 91st minute Nguyễn Quang Thanh shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lê Lam saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Vương Hoai struck a weak shot in the 92nd minute. Nguyễn Hong didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Viet Nam.
