Through an outstanding action, after 11 minutes, La Cadeo successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. 16 minutes into the match, Cau Hai's goal looked a bit too open when Bùi Phuc came free, but La Cadeo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Cau Hai booed when Haiphong was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Võ Diem didn't get a good kick on the ball. Nguyễn Duy, 19 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Nguyễn Minh-ha fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nguyễn Thuy having to interfere. Nguyễn Thuy took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lương Binh, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Bùi Phuc's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but La Cadeo read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 43rd minute of play. After having played for 45 minutes, Lương Binh managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Cau Hai's supporters crossed their fingers, but Lương Binh was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Trần Dong's late challenge caught a Cau Hai's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Trần Dong helped the player get up and apologised. After 46 played minutes Haiphong got a freekick which was hit by Trần Dong. After 49 minutes Haiphong's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Nguyễn Duy who took care of the corner kick. The corner ended in Nguyễn Duy almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Haiphong's Nguyễn Thuy did a great save. The Haiphong players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Cau Hai were winning 0-1.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Nguyễn Minh-ha stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Lương Binh fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nguyễn Thuy having to interfere. 57 minutes into the game, Nguyễn Minh-ha recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Nguyễn Thuy. Cau Hai's Lương Binh got a good chance for a goal in the 62nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Huỳnh Hanh received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. Nguyễn Thuy tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Nguyễn Minh-ha's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Nguyễn Thuy read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 65th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nguyễn Minh-ha in the 68th minute of play forced Haiphong's goalkeeper Nguyễn Thuy to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Nguyễn Minh-ha had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
