Nguyễn Viet didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Huỳnh Hieu went, in the 3rd minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Phạm Phu charged in rather forcefully in the 5th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Phạm Phu the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Cao Bang's Phạm Phu got a free kick in the 6th minute. 9 minutes into the match, Cao Bang's goal looked a bit too open when Trịnh Quang Thanh came free, but Nguyễn Viet reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 12 minutes into the game, Vũ Quang cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Nguyễn Viet was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Trần Duc received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Đỗ Van Tai Em came out and tried to block the shot, but Trần Duc slotted it home off the left post making it 1-2 in the 15th minute. In the 18th match minute, Yen Bai was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nguyễn Nghiêm-Minh to maneuver through the defense. Nguyễn Loc recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 20th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Trần Duy hit a great freekick 23 minutes into the match. In the 24th minute of the match Nguyễn Nghiêm-Minh sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Nguyễn Viet skillfully saved the ball. If Trần Duc had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Trần Duc fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Đỗ Van Tai Em having to interfere. Trịnh Quang Thanh received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Nguyễn Viet tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Cao Bang's zone, Vũ Quang stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nguyễn Viet came out of the goal and Vũ Quang tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Phạm Phu kicked well hit freekick during the 40th minute of the match. In the 42ndth minute of the game Vũ Quang who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Cao Bang's Nguyễn Viet was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After a rather tough play, Yen Bai's Nguyễn Lien got a free kick in the 43rd minute. When the match had gone on for 44 minutes, Trần Duc put it in 2-2 from a short distance just to the right of Đỗ Van Tai Em.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Vũ Quang stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Cao Bang's Phạm Phu got a free kick in the 54th minute. An unexpected shot in the 55th minute by Trịnh Quang Thanh got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. When the match had gone on for 55 minutes, Vũ Quang took a quick shot and it went in 2-3 without a chance for Nguyễn Viet to make any attempt to save it. After a defensive mix-up in Yen Bai's zone, Trần Duc stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Đỗ Van Tai Em came out of the goal and Trần Duc tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Nguyễn Loc during the 72nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Nguyễn Loc hit a great freekick 72 minutes into the match. Trần Duy hit a great freekick 75 minutes into the match. Trịnh Quang Thanh sent away a hard shot on goal in the 77th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Cao Bang's Trần Duy got a free kick in the 78th minute. Nguyễn Nghiêm-Minh kicked well hit freekick during the 80th minute of the match. After some careless play in the Yen Bai defense, Trần Duc kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Đỗ Van Tai Em. The Yen Bai fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Đỗ Van Tai Em should have stopped the shot. In the 85th minute Trần Duc shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Đỗ Van Tai Em saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Nguyễn Loc had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
