After some careless play in the Tuy Hoa defense, Phạm Tho kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Dương Tho. The Tuy Hoa fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Dương Tho should have stopped the shot. Dương Tho took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Phan Binh, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 41st minute Lưu Lan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lê Nga saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 43rd minute, Trần Thanh managed to get in a good position for a shot. Son La's supporters rose to their feet, but Trần Thanh was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Dương Tho breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

After 84 minutes, Phạm Tho mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Son La and the Tuy Hoa players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 84 played minutes Son La got a freekick which was hit by Phạm Tho. When Lưu Lan came up free with the goalie in the 87th minute, the Tuy Hoa fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Lưu Lan couldn't finish the play. Nguyễn Tinh struck a weak shot in the 89th minute. Lê Nga didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Tuy Hoa. Lê Nga stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Lưu Lan's shot from short distance in the 96th minute. Tuy Hoa's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
