After a defensive mix-up in Bắc Giang's zone, Lê Diem stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nghiêm Huỳnh came out of the goal and Lê Diem tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 8th minute, Nguyễn Thanh Bình made a precise shot to the right of Nghiêm Huỳnh. Bắc Giang's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. The supporters of Bắc Giang booed when Dien Bien Phu was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 11 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nguyễn Thanh Bình didn't get a good kick on the ball. A collision led to Dien Bien Phu getting a freekick after 17 minutes play. Trịnh Hoang hit a great ball. 18 minutes into the match, Dien Bien Phu's goalkeeper Lê Duy had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Trần Hung. Trần Hung might have been able to make a better finish in the 21st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Lê Duy. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Trần Hung got in the 24th a clear chance and fired away a hard shot against goal, but Lê Duy handled the situation perfectly and made a save by the crossbar. In the 27th minute, Lê Thai hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a rather tough play, Dien Bien Phu's Phan Lan got a free kick in the 28th minute. After 34 minutes, Trần Hung made it 1-1 with a short kick to the right side. Dien Bien Phu's Lê Duy tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. 38 minutes into the match, Bắc Giang's goal looked a bit too open when Lê Diem came free, but Nghiêm Huỳnh reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The Dien Bien Phu fans' excitement grew in the 38th match minute when Dien Bien Phu's Lê Diem looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. Nguyễn Thanh Bình received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 93rd minute. Nghiêm Huỳnh tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Lê Diem fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 97th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nghiêm Huỳnh having to interfere. Dien Bien Phu were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
