Trần Minh's late challenge caught a Gia Nghia's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Trần Minh helped the player get up and apologised. After 9 played minutes Lai Chau got a freekick which was hit by Trần Minh. After a rather tough play, Gia Nghia's Nguyễn Hoai got a free kick in the 10th minute. Nguyễn Hoang showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Trần Liem in the 24th minute of the match. 27 minutes into the match, Gia Nghia's Đinh Van Tai Em sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Nguyễn Hoang narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Nguyễn Cuc kicked well hit freekick during the 28th minute of the match. Đinh Van Tai Em sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. In the 38thth minute of the game Trần Liem who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Lai Chau's Nguyễn Hoang was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After having played for 48 minutes, Đinh Van Tai Em managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Gia Nghia's supporters crossed their fingers, but Đinh Van Tai Em was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After the first half Lai Chau were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Phạm Duc made a kick off. After a rather tough play, Gia Nghia's Đinh Van Tai Em got a free kick in the 52nd minute. Phạm Duc sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 58 played minutes Gia Nghia got a freekick which was hit by Nguyễn Hoai. After some fancy dribbling in the 59th minute, Phạm Duc managed to get in a good position for a shot. Lai Chau's supporters rose to their feet, but Phạm Duc was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Phạm Duy breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The audience was convinced that Trần Liem's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Nguyễn Hoang was relentless in the 64th minute of the game. Nguyễn Quang Thanh struck a weak shot in the 67th minute. Phạm Duy didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Lai Chau. When the match was over Lai Chau could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Gia Nghia throughout the match.
