An unexpectedly hard shot by Triệu Dinh in the 3rd minute of play forced Hai Phong's goalkeeper Võ Hoa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Phạm Thien was extremely unlucky when he, in the 8th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. The audience thought a goal was coming when Hoàng Cuc got free with Hồ Tu in the 12th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Hoàng Cuc fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hồ Tu having to interfere. Nguyễn Minh-ha hit a great freekick 14 minutes into the match. Hoàng Cuc received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 17th minute. A collision led to Quang Ngai getting a freekick after 21 minutes play. Lý Thanh hit a great ball. 22 minutes into the game, Vũ Xuan was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Quang Ngai's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Hai Phong the free kick. The goalkeeper, Hồ Tu, was totally fooled by Hai Phong's Nguyễn Tinh, who 23 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. In the 30th minute, Nguyễn Minh-ha hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Hồ Tu made a fantastic save in the 31st minute, when Hoàng Cuc sent off a good shot on target. It seemed to be an obvious goal in the 36th minute, but Hồ Tu got his fingers on the ball or the save, leaving Quang Ngai hanging dry this time. Võ Hoa showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lê Viet in the 37th minute of the match. Lý Thanh hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Phạm Thien was the one to do the kick off. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Phạm Thien in the 62nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Hồ Tu prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Phạm Thien received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Hồ Tu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 66th minute, Lê Viet managed to get in a good position for a shot. Quang Ngai's supporters rose to their feet, but Lê Viet was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Võ Hoa breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Hoàng Cuc might have been able to make a better finish in the 68th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Hồ Tu. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Hoàng Cuc ran back to his position shaking his head. 73 minutes into the match, Hai Phong's goalkeeper Võ Hoa had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Lê Viet. Võ Hoa showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Triệu Dinh in the 75th minute of the match. Phạm Thien struck a weak shot in the 78th minute. Hồ Tu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Hai Phong. When Hoàng Cuc came up free with the goalie in the 91st minute, the Hai Phong fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Hoàng Cuc couldn't finish the play. 94 minutes into the game, Đặng Tuan was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Hai Phong's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Quang Ngai the free kick. Đặng Tuan kicked well hit freekick during the 94th minute of the match. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Hai Phong fans cheered their team off the field, for while Quang Ngai had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
