Đoàn Hoang hit a great freekick 5 minutes into the match. After a defensive mix-up in Hung Yen's zone, Nguyễn Nhật Minh stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Tạ Thuyet came out of the goal and Nguyễn Nhật Minh tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After having played for 8 minutes, Phạm Cadeo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Hung Yen's supporters crossed their fingers, but Phạm Cadeo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Lý Hieu Ngan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Trần Hoa in the 12th minute of the match. Nguyễn Nhật Minh received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 13th minute. Tạ Thuyet tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 14 minutes into the match, Hung Yen's goalkeeper Tạ Thuyet had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Hồ Chung. Tạ Thuyet showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bùi Cuc, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. Bắc Ninh's Hồ Chung pulled a muscle in his back after 17 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Trần Xuan's late challenge caught a Bắc Ninh's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Trần Xuan helped the player get up and apologised. Bắc Ninh's Nguyễn Dung was substituted for Hồ Chung. Trần Xuan kicked well hit freekick during the 19th minute of the match. Lý Hieu Ngan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Trần Hoa in the 21st minute of play. Bùi Cuc might have been able to make a better finish in the 24th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Tạ Thuyet. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Bùi Cuc ran back to his position shaking his head. Tạ Thuyet made a fantastic save in the 25th minute, when Nguyễn Dung sent off a good shot on target. In the 27th minute Phạm Thuyet shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tạ Thuyet saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Phạm Thuyet sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Lý Hieu Ngan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Phạm Cadeo, who was totally free with the ball in the 33rd minute. Lý Hieu Ngan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Phạm Cadeo in the 36th minute of the match. Lý Hieu Ngan was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Tạ Thuyet showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Phạm Thuyet in the 51st minute of the match. In the 53rd minute Phạm Cadeo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lý Hieu Ngan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Bắc Ninh's Phạm Thuyet got a free kick in the 54th minute. Nguyễn Liem hit a great freekick 56 minutes into the match. In the 62nd minute Trần Xuan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lý Hieu Ngan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Bắc Ninh's Lý Hieu Ngan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Phạm Cadeo in the 67th minute of play. Bắc Ninh's Phạm Thuyet got a good chance for a goal in the 68th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After some fancy dribbling in the 69th minute, Nguyễn Nhật Minh managed to get in a good position for a shot. Bắc Ninh's supporters rose to their feet, but Nguyễn Nhật Minh was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Tạ Thuyet breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The supporters of Hung Yen booed when Bắc Ninh was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 75 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vũ Nhật Minh didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 77th minute Phạm Cadeo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lý Hieu Ngan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The crowd rose to their feet as Hung Yen's Phạm Cadeo slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Lý Hieu Ngan. That made the score 1-2 after 81 minutes of play. If Bùi Cuc had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 85th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Trần Hoa's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 88thth minute, Lý Hieu Ngan skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Lý Hieu Ngan tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Hung Yen succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Bắc Ninh had controlled the match.
