In the 24th match minute, Buon Ma Thuot was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Phạm Chuong to maneuver through the defense. In the 25th minute Đặng Tu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nguyễn Thanh saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Đinh Phuong stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Nguyễn Liem's shot from short distance in the 41st minute. Kontum's Đinh Phuong proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 43rd minute of the match, managed to save Kontum from getting a goal against them. 47 minutes into the match, Kontum's goalkeeper Đinh Phuong had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Trần Chung.

The wind increased when Đặng Tu made the kick off in the second half. Nguyễn Thanh showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Đặng Tu, who was totally free with the ball in the 51st minute. Vương Van Tai Em kicked well hit freekick during the 60th minute of the match. Đinh Phuong took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nguyễn Liem, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Vương Van Tai Em's late challenge caught a Buon Ma Thuot's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Vương Van Tai Em helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Buon Ma Thuot booed when Kontum was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 64 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vương Van Tai Em didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 65 played minutes, Buon Ma Thuot's Phan Hanh shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Đinh Phuong came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Buon Ma Thuot reached it. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Nguyễn Teo during the 85th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Nguyễn Teo hit a great freekick 85 minutes into the match. In the 89th minute, Đặng Tu fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Nguyễn Thanh, passed just outside the right post.
