Võ Phuc was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 5 minutes into the match. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 4th minute of the game. One of Thua Thien-Hue:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Khanh Hoa:s goal. In the 6th minute there was a penalty for Khanh Hoa. Nguyễn Than stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Dương Minh Phượng. 0-1. In the 10th minute, Nguyễn Dinh reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Phan Bien. The goal made the score 1-1. In the 16thth minute of the game Dương Phu who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Thua Thien-Hue's Dương Minh Phượng was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 17 minutes into the match, Thua Thien-Hue's goal looked a bit too open when Dương Phu came free, but Dương Minh Phượng reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Nguyễn Huỳnh during the 18th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Thua Thien-Hue's Nguyễn Huỳnh got a free kick in the 18th minute. Nguyễn Dinh sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The audience was convinced that Nguyễn Dinh's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Phan Bien was relentless in the 31st minute of the game. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Nguyễn Dinh in the 32nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Phan Bien prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Nguyễn Than blasted a shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Phan Bien having to make a save. After having played for 34 minutes, Nguyễn Dinh managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Thua Thien-Hue's supporters crossed their fingers, but Nguyễn Dinh was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Dương Minh Phượng made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dương Phu in the 36th minute of play. Thua Thien-Hue's Dương Minh Phượng played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nguyễn Nga in the 38th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Khanh Hoa's zone, Nguyễn Dinh stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Phan Bien came out of the goal and Nguyễn Dinh tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Nguyễn Phong charged in rather forcefully in the 42nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Nguyễn Phong the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Thua Thien-Hue booed when Khanh Hoa was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nguyễn Phong didn't get a good kick on the ball. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Nguyễn Nga was the one to do the kick off. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Nguyễn Dinh in the 54th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Phan Bien saved Khanh Hoa from getting behind. Nguyễn Loc took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 57th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Phan Bien. Khanh Hoa's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Nguyễn Dinh struck a weak shot in the 58th minute. Phan Bien didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Thua Thien-Hue. When the match had gone on for 61 minutes, Nguyễn Dinh put it in 2-1 from a short distance just to the right of Phan Bien. Dương Minh Phượng was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 66th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Phạm Lien. When Phạm Thanh fell near the penalty area in the 71st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Khanh Hoa's protests and gave Phạm Thanh a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Khanh Hoa's Phạm Thanh got a free kick in the 71st minute. In the 72nd minute, Lê Dung hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Phạm Thanh hit a great freekick 76 minutes into the match. Phan Bien came out of the goal in the 79th minute to try and stop a shot by Thua Thien-Hue's Nguyễn Dinh. But to his dismay, Nguyễn Dinh quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-1. Nguyễn Than sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 84th minute of the match Lê Thanh sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Phan Bien skillfully saved the ball. Thua Thien-Hue's Nguyễn Dinh got a good chance for a goal in the 85th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Nguyễn Than came up free with the goalie in the 89th minute, the Thua Thien-Hue fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Nguyễn Than couldn't finish the play. When Thua Thien-Hue's Nguyễn Dinh in the 91st minute got a chance for a shot 91st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Khanh Hoa's goalie prevented a goal. Nguyễn Nga sent away a hard shot on goal in the 97th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal.
