Seating: 8, VIP seats: 0) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Phạm Liem kicked off to start the match. When Nguyễn Dung fell near the penalty area in the 4th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ben Tre's protests and gave Nguyễn Dung a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Ben Tre's Nguyễn Dung got a free kick in the 4th minute. After 5 played minutes, Nam Dinh's Trần Loc shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Nguyễn Tran came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. Despite this Trần Duc quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. When the match had gone on for 37 minutes, Lê Tinh put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Trần Duc. After 41st play minutes Lê Tinh shot 0-2, a short shot which went by Trần Duc and just under the crossbar into goal. If Lê Tinh had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After the first half Ben Tre were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When Nguyễn Huynh Duc was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 53 minutes had been played.
