The supporters of Vinh booed when Ben Tre was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 4 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lê Duc didn't get a good kick on the ball. 6 minutes into the match, Vinh's goal looked a bit too open when Lê Tinh came free, but Nguyễn Tuyet reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience was convinced that Tạ Hong Minh's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Nguyễn Tran was relentless in the 12th minute of the game. Lê Tinh sent away a hard shot on goal in the 15th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 19th minute Phan Bay shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nguyễn Tran saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Lê Duc recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 22nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. With a little luck, Vinh's Nguyễn Tuyet got control of the ball when Lê Duc tried to sneak it across the goal line. When the match had been going on for 32 minutes, Ben Tre's Phan Tho got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Nguyễn Tuyet. Nguyễn Tran showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tạ Hong Minh in the 35th minute of the match. Lê Tinh fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nguyễn Tuyet having to interfere. Nguyễn Tuyet made a fantastic save in the 42nd minute, when Lê Duc sent off a good shot on target. Tạ Hong Minh struck a weak shot in the 48th minute. Nguyễn Tran didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Vinh.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Tạ Hong Minh stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After 51 played minutes Ben Tre got a freekick which was hit by Trần Minh Phượng. Phan Bay scored 1-1 in the 54th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Nguyễn Tran, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Nguyễn Tran made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tạ Hong Minh in the 60th minute of play. Lê Duc fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 61st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nguyễn Tuyet having to interfere. Nguyễn Tran came out of the goal in the 79th minute to try and stop a shot by Vinh's Phan Bay. But to his dismay, Phan Bay quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. The crowd rose to their feet as Tạ Hong Minh kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Nguyễn Tran. That made the score 1-3 in the 82 minute of play. Phan Bay could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 88th minute of the match, but Nguyễn Tran made a huge save. If Lê Tinh had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Vinh getting a freekick after 95 minutes play. Lê Khoi hit a great ball. Vinh's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
