When Văn Nguyet fell near the penalty area in the 10th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Hanoi's protests and gave Văn Nguyet a yellow card for diving instead. Hai Duong's supporters crossed their fingers, but Nguyễn Xuan was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Hanoi's La Chung got a good chance for a goal in the 19th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Trần Bay made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Đỗ Duc in the 20th minute of play. Trần Bay came out of the goal in the 24th minute to try and stop a shot by Hanoi's Đỗ Duc. But to his dismay, Đỗ Duc quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. Đỗ Duc received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Trần Bay tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The supporters of Hanoi booed when Hai Duong was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 31 match minutes in a wonderful position. Trần Khoi didn't get a good kick on the ball. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Hoàng Chung made a kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 56th minute, La Chung managed to get in a good position for a shot. Hanoi's supporters rose to their feet, but La Chung was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Trần Bay breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Trần Bay, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. La Chung received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 59th minute. Trần Bay dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. La Chung came free with the goalkeeper in the 83rd minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Trần Bay could save by the left post. In the 84th match minute, Hai Duong was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nguyễn Khoi to maneuver through the defense. La Chung sent away a hard shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Nguyễn Khoi hit a great freekick 88 minutes into the match. When Đỗ Duc came up free with the goalie in the 89th minute, the Hanoi fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Đỗ Duc couldn't finish the play. In the 92nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Hai Duong's goalkeeper Trần Bay, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. La Chung could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 94th minute of the match, but Trần Bay made a huge save. Nguyễn Phuong hit a great freekick 97 minutes into the match. The long shot by Trịnh Phuong in the 98th minute really tested Trần Bay's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. When the match was over Hanoi could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Hai Duong throughout the match.
