Phan Tran dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. When Phan Binh came up free with the goalie in the 27th minute, the Vinh Long fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Phan Binh couldn't finish the play. After a rather tough play, Vinh Long's Nguyễn Hieu got a free kick in the 29th minute. 30 minutes into the match, Yen Bai's Huỳnh Cuc broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Phan Binh could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 33rd minute of the match, but Phan Tran made a huge save. After some fancy dribbling in the 34th minute, Hồ Chuong managed to get in a good position for a shot. Yen Bai's supporters rose to their feet, but Hồ Chuong was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Lý Huynh Duc breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 45 minutes into the match, Yen Bai's goalkeeper Phan Tran had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Trần Minh-ha. Lý Huynh Duc made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hồ Chuong in the 48th minute of play. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Phan Binh stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Hồ Chuong could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 51st minute of the match, but Lý Huynh Duc made a huge save. Lý Huynh Duc showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Phan Tan, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. Trần Minh-ha fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Phan Tran having to interfere. In the 72nd minute Phan Binh shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Phan Tran saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some careless play in the Yen Bai defense, Phan Binh kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Phan Tran. The Yen Bai fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Phan Tran should have stopped the shot. 86 minutes into the game, Hồ Hieu Ngan was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Yen Bai's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Vinh Long the free kick. A collision led to Yen Bai getting a freekick after 86 minutes play. Hồ Hieu Ngan hit a great ball. 87 minutes into the match, Vinh Long's Nguyễn Hieu broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Phan Binh received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 89th minute. Phan Tran tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Trần Minh-ha sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
