The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Nguyễn Duong received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Hoàng Thanh tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Nguyễn Tan blasted a shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Hoàng Thanh having to make a save. Nguyễn Duong recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 28th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After having played for 30 minutes, Nguyễn Duong managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Dong Xoai's supporters crossed their fingers, but Nguyễn Duong was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpected shot in the 33rd minute by Nguyễn Lien got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Đỗ Hoang made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Huỳnh Tấn Dũng in the 34th minute of play. When Huỳnh Tấn Dũng came up free with the goalie in the 36th minute, the Nha Trang fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Huỳnh Tấn Dũng couldn't finish the play. In the 40th play minute Nguyễn Lien came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Đỗ Hoang. 1-0. If Nguyễn Dinh had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.

The wind increased when Nguyễn Duc made the kick off in the second half.
