Đặng Hoa charged in rather forcefully in the 16th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Đặng Hoa the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 16 played minutes Yen Bai got a freekick which was hit by Đặng Hoa. Yen Bai's Hoàng Khoi played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nguyễn Cong Vinh in the 17th minute of play. Bien Hoa were awarded a corner in the 22th minute after Yen Bai's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Nguyễn Thi took the corner. Nguyễn Thi made a great header on Bien Hoa's corner, it was just that Yen Bai's Hoàng Khoi managed to reach the ball for a save. During the 45th minute of the match Phạm Tong completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Phạm Tong a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. Nguyễn Hoa struck a weak shot in the 46th minute. Nguyễn Lam didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Yen Bai. The referee felt a red card was in order, 48 minutes into the game, when Trần Lan put in a rough tackle. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Nguyễn Hoa was the one to do the kick off. In the 55th minute the ball was on its way in behind Yen Bai's goalkeeper Hoàng Khoi, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Bien Hoa's Vũ Hanh got a good chance for a goal in the 57th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Nguyễn Lam showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Nguyễn Hoa, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. Lê Duong charged in rather forcefully in the 64th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Lê Duong the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Yen Bai's Lê Duong got a free kick in the 64th minute. When the match had gone on for 66 minutes, Nguyễn Viet took a quick shot and it went in 1-2 without a chance for Hoàng Khoi to make any attempt to save it. After recieving a nice pass, Yen Bai's Phạm Hoang tried to score from far away in the 90th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. In the 91st minute, Nguyễn Thi Ngoc hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Nguyễn Lam took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nguyễn Tran, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Nguyễn Tran had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 98th minute, Nguyễn Hoa left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Yen Bai fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-2.
