In the 6th minute Hoàng Nhật Minh shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nguyễn Nam saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Trần Thi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 8th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Nguyễn Nam made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lê Nam in the 16th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 18th minute, Lê Nam managed to get in a good position for a shot. Son La's supporters rose to their feet, but Lê Nam was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nguyễn Nam breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 21st minute, Võ Tấn Dũng hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 22nd match minute, Son La was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Võ Tấn Dũng to maneuver through the defense. Trần Thi was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 23rd played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Nguyễn Nam made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hoàng Nhật Minh in the 25th minute of play. Trần Thi could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 32nd minute of the match, but La Thanh made a huge save. Lê Nam's late challenge caught a Lam Dong's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Lê Nam helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Son La's Lê Nam got a free kick in the 34th minute. 37 minutes into the game, Trần Thi cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. La Thanh was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Lam Dong's Nguyễn Nam played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lê Nam in the 40th minute of play.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Lâm Thanh made a kick off. In the 53rd minute, Son La's Lê Nam ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Nguyễn Nam. Nguyễn Nam yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-1. Hoàng Nhật Minh could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 56th minute of the match, but Nguyễn Nam made a huge save. 59 minutes into the game, Lam Dong's Lâm Thanh nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. La Thanh made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. If Lê Nam had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Son La's La Thanh played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lâm Thanh in the 73rd minute of play. In the 78th minute, Trần Thi got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. La Thanh stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Lâm Thanh's shot from short distance in the 81st minute. La Thanh made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lê Hong Minh in the 89th minute of play. Võ Tấn Dũng kicked well hit freekick during the 90th minute of the match. The audience was convinced that Lâm Thanh's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but La Thanh was relentless in the 91st minute of the game. After some fancy dribbling in the 93rd minute, Lâm Thanh managed to get in a good position for a shot. Lam Dong's supporters rose to their feet, but Lâm Thanh was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. La Thanh breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Trần Thi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 96th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without La Thanh having to interfere. For all the effort they put into the match, the Son La players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Lam Dong.
