An unexpectedly hard shot by Peter Lonsdale in the 12th minute of play forced Ashby de la Zouch United's goalkeeper Azli Teo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ashby de la Zouch United's Azli Teo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Peter Lonsdale in the 19th minute of play. Ashby de la Zouch United's attentive Faris Ning managed to snatch the ball when Samuel Shepherd made a throw-in in the 40th minute of the game. Ged Wootton hit a great freekick 40 minutes into the match. Azli Teo didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Ged Wootton went, in the 43rd minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Peter Lonsdale was the one to do the kick off. In the 54th minute Peter Lonsdale shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Azli Teo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Azli Teo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Peter Lonsdale in the 56th minute of the match. 68 minutes into the match, Dover AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Steven Seng came free, but Eddy Kemp reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 70 played minutes Dover AFC got a freekick which was hit by Micheal Rundle. In the 71st minute of the match Daniel Vijiaratnam shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Eddy Kemp showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Ged Wootton charged in rather forcefully in the 71st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ged Wootton the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 72nd minute, Ged Wootton hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 75 minutes into the match, Ong Lum had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Eddy Kemp. Dover AFC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Ong Lum was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. Ong Lum sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Ashby de la Zouch United lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
