Laurence Sawbridge made a fantastic save in the 3rd minute, when Biddle Byrnes sent off a good shot on target. Backmede's Laurence Sawbridge proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 4th minute of the match, managed to save Backmede from getting a goal against them. Jess Fieldhouse sent away a hard shot on goal in the 6th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jess Fieldhouse fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Laurence Sawbridge having to interfere. 11 minutes into the game, Neal Plummer was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Backmede's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Urisino the free kick. After a rather tough play, Urisino's Abraham Tencer got a free kick in the 12th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Biddle Byrnes got free with Laurence Sawbridge in the 34th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Barnes Lucas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jess Fieldhouse in the 40th minute of play forced Backmede's goalkeeper Laurence Sawbridge to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Laurence Sawbridge stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jess Fieldhouse's shot from short distance in the 41st minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 47th minute, Nilson Schulzte managed to get in a good position for a shot. Backmede's supporters rose to their feet, but Nilson Schulzte was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Hank Orr breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Nick Trims to make the kick off. After a defensive mix-up in Urisino's zone, Nick Trims stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Hank Orr came out of the goal and Nick Trims tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 55 minutes into the match, Backmede's goal looked a bit too open when Abraham Tencer came free, but Laurence Sawbridge reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Backmede's Laurence Sawbridge played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jess Fieldhouse in the 56th minute of play. Laurence Sawbridge made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jess Fieldhouse in the 58th minute of play. When the match clock showed 60 minutes, the score became 1-0 when Biddle Byrnes sped through Backmede's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Laurence Sawbridge. In the 69th minute, Danny Balaam got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 73rd minute Biddle Byrnes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Laurence Sawbridge saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 77th minute the ball was on its way in behind Urisino's goalkeeper Hank Orr, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After some fancy dribbling in the 78th minute, Nick Trims managed to get in a good position for a shot. Backmede's supporters crossed their fingers, but Neal Plummer was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 85th minute Biddle Byrnes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Laurence Sawbridge saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 88th minute Nick Trims shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hank Orr saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 94th minute, Biddle Byrnes left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Urisino fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-0. For all the effort they put into the match, the Backmede players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Urisino.
