The tension between the Barringna and the Manangatang players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Barringna's Rob Watman got a free kick in the 9th minute. Phil Curtis made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Clifford Johnston in the 11th minute of play. Manangatang's Clifford Johnston got a good chance for a goal in the 13th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Ray Dowling made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Howard Butterworth in the 15th minute of play. After 18 minutes, Tommy Brennan mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Barringna and the Manangatang players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Manangatang booed when Barringna was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tommy Brennan didn't get a good kick on the ball. Phil Curtis stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Thomas Pincini's shot from short distance in the 19th minute. The Phil Curtis was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. When Clifford Johnston came up free with the goalie in the 37th minute, the Manangatang fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Clifford Johnston couldn't finish the play. Barringna's Phil Curtis played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Thomas Pincini in the 39th minute of play. 40 minutes into the game, Manangatang's Clifford Johnston nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Phil Curtis made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. 44 minutes into the match, Manangatang's goalkeeper Ray Dowling had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Rob Watman. Ray Dowling made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Howard Butterworth in the 48th minute of play. After the first half Manangatang were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Jeffray Kreck hit a great freekick 54 minutes into the match. Thomas Pincini received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 62nd minute. The Manangatang fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ray Dowling should have stopped the shot. Howard Butterworth struck a weak shot in the 84th minute. Ray Dowling didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Barringna. After some fancy dribbling in the 87th minute, Clifford Johnston managed to get in a good position for a shot. Manangatang's supporters rose to their feet, but Clifford Johnston was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Phil Curtis breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Phil Curtis showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Thomas Pincini, who was totally free with the ball in the 90th minute. In the 93rd minute, Clifford Johnston got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Manangatang players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
