Match Report

Coleraine
Spectators: 35 (Terracing: 27, Seating: 8, VIP seats: 0)
The mood of the audience was pleasant when Carleton Christian made the kick off which started today's match. Pearce's Daniel Coote got a good chance for a goal in the 2nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Carleton Christian had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 5th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. If Daniel Coote had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Pearce's Patrick Alcock got a free kick in the 13th minute. Carleton Christian struck a weak shot in the 15th minute. Iggi Breasley didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Coleraine. Carleton Christian received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Iggi Breasley tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Carleton Christian in the 25th minute of play forced Pearce's goalkeeper Iggi Breasley to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Anthony Kirkham showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Keith Freeman, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. Neale Connell had several of the Pearce's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 31 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 2-0 score and a disappointed Iggi Breasley as he didn't even see the shot coming. The Coleraine fans' excitement grew in the 34th match minute when Coleraine's Neale Connell looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 3-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. After a defensive mix-up in Pearce's zone, Carleton Christian stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Iggi Breasley came out of the goal and Carleton Christian tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Pearce's Daniel Coote in the 42nd minute got a chance for a shot 42nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Coleraine's goalie prevented a goal. Anthony Kirkham stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Daniel Coote's shot from short distance in the 43rd minute. If Carleton Christian had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Keith Freeman made a kick off. Pearce were awarded a corner in the 53th minute after Coleraine's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Patrick Alcock took the corner. The corner led Pearce's Patrick Alcock to fire away a dangerous shot which Anthony Kirkham despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. If Neale Connell had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Tony Anderson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 61st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Iggi Breasley having to interfere. Coleraine's Anthony Kirkham proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 65th minute of the match, managed to save Coleraine from getting a goal against them. Coleraine's Carleton Christian got a good chance for a goal in the 68th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After having played for 74 minutes, Keith Freeman managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Pearce's supporters crossed their fingers, but Keith Freeman was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. A collision led to Coleraine getting a freekick after 75 minutes play. Dugald Jeffress hit a great ball. In the 77th minute Carleton Christian shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Iggi Breasley saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Pearce's Iggi Breasley played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Carleton Christian in the 81st minute of play. 84 minutes into the match, Daniel Coote dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Anthony Kirkham, 3-1. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Neale Connell in the 90th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Iggi Breasley saved Pearce from getting behind. Iggi Breasley took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Carleton Christian, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Coleraine fans cheered their team off the field, for while Pearce had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
