Ryan Bowman started the match with the kick off. 7 minutes into the match, Kewell's goal looked a bit too open when Brad Serena came free, but Carter Glover reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 10 minutes of play, Merinda's Brad Serena made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Carter Glover was left in no man's land by his defense there! When Ryan Bowman came up free with the goalie in the 13th minute, the Kewell fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ryan Bowman couldn't finish the play. Baxter Adair who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 27thth minute tested the skills of Benjamin Pears when he managed to save the team from getting behind. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ralph Caddick in the 31st minute of play forced Kewell's goalkeeper Carter Glover to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 32 minutes into the match, Kewell's goal looked a bit too open when Ralph Caddick came free, but Carter Glover reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Ralph Caddick made a kick off. Kewell's supporters rose to their feet, but Ryan Bowman was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Benjamin Pears breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Benjamin Pears took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ryan Bowman, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 83 played minutes Merinda got a freekick which was hit by Brockman Houldsworth. Ryan Bowman sent away a hard shot on goal in the 84th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Lewis Johnston's late challenge caught a Kewell's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Lewis Johnston helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Merinda getting a freekick after 85 minutes play. Lewis Johnston hit a great ball. Ryan Bowman struck a weak shot in the 88th minute. Benjamin Pears didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Kewell. After having played for 93 minutes, Brad Serena managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Merinda's supporters crossed their fingers, but Brad Serena was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Merinda played a much better game than Kewell and deserved their victory. The Kewell players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
