Spectators: 36 (Terracing: 28, Seating: 8, VIP seats: 0) An unexpectedly hard shot by Rolando Jobson in the 3rd minute of play forced Excelsior FC's goalkeeper Jacob Ceney to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Excelsior FC's Jacob Ceney played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rolando Jobson in the 14th minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Jordon Gillingwater during the 15th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Excelsior FC getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Jordon Gillingwater hit a great ball. In the 17th minute, Humphrey Slattery hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some fancy dribbling in the 20th minute, Rolando Jobson managed to get in a good position for a shot. Grove's supporters rose to their feet, but Rolando Jobson was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jacob Ceney breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Jacob Ceney made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rich Allen in the 21st minute of play. Martin Gorham showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Nick Turnor, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. Andres Goucher hit a great freekick 27 minutes into the match. When the match had gone on for 30 minutes, Rich Allen put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Jacob Ceney. Jacob Ceney took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rolando Jobson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Antonio Gray during the 40th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Rolando Jobson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Grove's Rich Allen got a good chance for a goal in the 47th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Martin Gorham showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nick Turnor in the 51st minute of the match. Rolando Jobson in the 53rdth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Jacob Ceney, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. If Rich Allen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Grove booed when Excelsior FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Barry Everett didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 60 minutes, Rich Allen managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Grove's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rich Allen was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 62 minutes into the game, one of Grove:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. In the 64th minute, Roger Wood made a precise shot to the right of Martin Gorham. Grove's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-2. Excelsior FC's Porter Mills got a good chance for a goal in the 69th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The referee gave Excelsior FC a penalty, 72 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Roger Wood, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Grove's Martin Gorham. 2-2. In the 76th minute, one of Excelsior FC:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Excelsior FC. Jacob Ceney made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rich Allen in the 79th minute of play. 82 minutes in the game, Rich Allen fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Jacob Ceney having to interfere.
