Axel Montenegro might have been able to make a better finish in the 16th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Paul Heyckendorf. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Axel Montenegro ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 16th minute Axel Montenegro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Paul Heyckendorf saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Pedro Manzanares made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alex Mansilha in the 20th minute of play. In the 21st minute the ball was on its way in behind Academica Pulheim's goalkeeper Paul Heyckendorf, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The supporters of Colombia booed when Academica Pulheim was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kurt Ahrem didn't get a good kick on the ball. Paul Heyckendorf made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-2. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-2.

Pedro Manzanares was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
