When the match had gone on for 33 minutes, Gong Ao Guang took a quick shot and it went in 2-0 without a chance for Julio Vera to make any attempt to save it. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 39 played minutes C.A. Peñarol got a freekick which was hit by Goran Lindegger. Gong Ao Guang sent away a hard shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 44 minutes into the match, C.A. Peñarol's Gong Ao Guang sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gong Ao Guang in the 47th minute of the match. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

51 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Gong Ao Guang came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 51 minutes of play, C.A. Peñarol's Gong Ao Guang made it 3-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Julio Vera was left in no man's land by his defense there! Cristian Sancho could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 55th minute of the match, but Xaiver Rosende made a huge save. Goran Lindegger hit a great freekick 62 minutes into the match. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gong Ao Guang, who was totally free with the ball in the 65th minute. After 68 played minutes C.A. Peñarol got a freekick which was hit by Nicolas Alen. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Anselmo Velin, who was totally free with the ball in the 73rd minute. C.A. Peñarol's Anselmo Velin got a good chance for a goal in the 77th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 88th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Primitivo Andino to maneuver through the defense. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Anselmo Velin in the 90th minute of play. When the referee blew the final whistle, C.A. Peñarol could leave the field as winners, despite Ecuador having more of the ball for most of the match.
