The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 3rd minute, Salvador Totakoxe hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 7th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fabrizio Masci having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luis Andino in the 8th minute of play forced C.A.RIVER PLATE's goalkeeper Fabrizio Masci to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 11 minutes into the match, C.A.RIVER PLATE's goal looked a bit too open when Luis Andino came free, but Fabrizio Masci reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Fabrizio Masci didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Cristian Sancho went, in the 15th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Crispin Stichler who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 24thth minute tested the skills of Julio Vera when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Crispin Stichler, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Felix Montenegro blasted a shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Fabrizio Masci having to make a save. After a rather tough play, C.A.RIVER PLATE's Ezequiel Orain got a free kick in the 29th minute. C.A.RIVER PLATE's Fabrizio Masci played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 31st minute of play. Fabrizio Masci showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 33rd minute of the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Crispin Stichler in the 34th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Julio Vera came out of the goal in the 38th minute to try and stop a shot by C.A.RIVER PLATE's Sergio Sasoin. But to his dismay, Sergio Sasoin quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Through an outstanding action, after 47 minutes, Julio Vera successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Daniel Zorita stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 54th minute, Crispin Stichler ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Julio Vera was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. Fabrizio Masci showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 57th minute. Fabrizio Masci made a fantastic save in the 59th minute, when Daniel Zorita sent off a good shot on target. Aristides Emesto's late challenge caught a Ecuador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Aristides Emesto helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to C.A.RIVER PLATE getting a freekick after 64 minutes play. Aristides Emesto hit a great ball. C.A.RIVER PLATE's Fabrizio Masci proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 67th minute of the match, managed to save C.A.RIVER PLATE from getting a goal against them. When the match had gone on for 87 minutes, Daniel Zorita took a quick shot and it went in 2-2 without a chance for Fabrizio Masci to make any attempt to save it. If Nuno Carmo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With his leg Fabrizio Masci managed to avoid a goal in the 95thth minute, when Ecuador's Daniel Zorita fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side.
