After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Giovanni Bueno stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Giovanni Bueno tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 9th minute, Daniel Zorita made a precise shot to the right of Efrain Salamon. Celtic FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. 12 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Raphael Almeida came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 13th minute, Celtic FC's Raphael Almeida ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Julio Vera. Julio Vera yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-1. Julio Vera made an important save on a dangerous shot by Vicente Matos in the 17th minute. Efrain Salamon showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Zorita in the 20th minute of the match. Thanks to some nice moves Beto Hermes could shoot a difficult shot in the 22nd minute, which Julio Vera however easily saved by the left post. In the 24th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Efrain Salamon saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Celtic FC's Efrain Salamon played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 32nd minute of play. 33 minutes into the match, Celtic FC's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Efrain Salamon reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Raphael Almeida, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Vicente Matos came up free with the goalie in the 37th minute, the Celtic FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Vicente Matos couldn't finish the play. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 39th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Julio Vera didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Raphael Almeida went, in the 41st minute, to the upper right corner, 3-1 was the resulting score. After a rather tough play, Celtic FC's Raphael Almeida got a free kick in the 43rd minute. 45 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Efrain Salamon narrowly saved just below the crossbar.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Raphael Almeida made a kick off. The crowd rose to their feet as Ecuador's Cristian Sancho slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Efrain Salamon. That made the score 3-2 after 50 minutes of play. After a rather tough play, Celtic FC's Edson Oliveira got a free kick in the 54th minute. In the 56th minute, Daniel Zorita got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Raphael Almeida, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. Daniel Zoritas short, quick shot in the 71stth minute got Efrain Salamon to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. In the 79th minute Luis Andino shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Efrain Salamon saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Daniel Zorita charged in rather forcefully in the 80th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Daniel Zorita the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 81 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Daniel Zorita. 3-3 became the score in the 87th minute when Cristian Sancho elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Felix Montes during the 94th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Ecuador were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
