Spectators: 45 (Terracing: 35, Seating: 10, VIP seats: 0) Canarinho Atordoado's Peter Mpenza started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After 5 minutes Costa Rica's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Peter Mpenza who took care of the corner kick. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Costa Rica's goalie and right to Lino Mota. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Costa Rica's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Benito Sanz came out of the goal in the 7th minute to try and stop a shot by Canarinho Atordoado's Luiz Leo. But to his dismay, Luiz Leo quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. If Luiz Leo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Peter Mpenza blasted a shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Benito Sanz having to make a save. After 14 minutes of play, Canarinho Atordoado's Luiz Leo made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Benito Sanz was left in no man's land by his defense there! An unexpectedly hard shot by Luiz Leo in the 18th minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Peter Mpenza blasted a shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Benito Sanz having to make a save. The audience was convinced that Peter Mpenza's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Benito Sanz was relentless in the 20th minute of the game. When the match clock showed 21 minutes, the score became 0-3 when Peter Mpenza sped through Costa Rica's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Benito Sanz. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Alan Moruga got a free kick in the 24th minute. Benito Sanz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luiz Leo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Benito Sanz stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Peter Mpenza's shot from short distance in the 26th minute. Benito Sanz came out of the goal in the 29th minute to try and stop a shot by Canarinho Atordoado's Luiz Leo. But to his dismay, Luiz Leo quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-4. After some careless play in the Costa Rica defense, Luiz Leo kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Benito Sanz. The Costa Rica fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Benito Sanz should have stopped the shot. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Peter Mpenza in the 38th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Benito Sanz saved Costa Rica from getting behind. Benito Sanz didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Luiz Leo went, in the 39th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-6 was the resulting score. Efrain Moruga's late challenge caught a Canarinho Atordoado's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Efrain Moruga helped the player get up and apologised. After 41 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Costa Rica! In the 46th match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Abel Carballo to maneuver through the defense. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-7 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Axel Tasis to make the kick off. Peter Mpenza might have been able to make a better finish in the 64th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Benito Sanz. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Peter Mpenza ran back to his position shaking his head. After a defensive mix-up in Costa Rica's zone, Peter Mpenza stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Benito Sanz came out of the goal and Peter Mpenza tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Peter Mpenza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 69th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 70 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Peter Mpenza came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 75 minutes into the match, Luiz Leo notched a goal, 0-10, to the right of Costa Rica's Benito Sanz. Benito Sanz was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The supporters of Canarinho Atordoado booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 79 match minutes in a wonderful position. Axel Tasis didn't get a good kick on the ball. Márcio Seabra hit a great freekick 79 minutes into the match. In the 82nd minute, Peter Mpenza made a precise shot to the right of Benito Sanz. Costa Rica's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-11. 86 minutes into the game, Tuncer İlbaşı cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-12. Benito Sanz was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Teodoro Jacinto scored 0-13 in the 89th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Benito Sanz, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Benito Sanz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luiz Leo in the 93rd minute of the match. Benito Sanz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Teodoro Jacinto, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
