The referee ignored Mexico's protests and gave Lorenzo Cazalla a yellow card for diving instead. After 68 played minutes Mexico got a freekick which was hit by Lorenzo Cazalla. An unexpectedly hard shot by Zula Harendarski in the 72nd minute of play forced Mexico's goalkeeper Dante Lacasa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dante Lacasa came out of the goal in the 74th minute to try and stop a shot by barcelona de guayaquil's Isaltino Carneiro. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alberto Tafalla couldn't finish the play. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Mexico had played much better football throughout.
