Paraguay's Jacobo Nores played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luiz Leo in the 13th minute of play. Peter Mpenza struck a weak shot in the 14th minute. Jacobo Nores didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Canarinho Atordoado. Luiz Leo scored 0-1 in the 17th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jacobo Nores, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 20 minutes into the game, Canarinho Atordoado's Luiz Leo nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Jacobo Nores made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Peter Mpenza in the 23rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jacobo Nores saved Paraguay from getting behind. Hector Covarrubias struck a weak shot in the 24th minute. After some careless play in the Paraguay defense, Peter Mpenza kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jacobo Nores. The Paraguay fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jacobo Nores should have stopped the shot. Peter Mpenza made in the 32nd minute of the game a quick throw-in and Márcio Seabra immediately put the ball in play. When the match clock showed 43 minutes, the score became 0-6 when Peter Mpenza sped through Paraguay's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Jacobo Nores. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-6 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Jacobo Nores was left in no man's land by his defense there! Jacobo Nores made a fantastic save in the 69th minute, when Luiz Leo sent off a good shot on target. In the 72nd minute, Canarinho Atordoado's Peter Mpenza ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Jacobo Nores. Jacobo Nores yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-8. Luiz Leo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jacobo Nores having to interfere. In the 84th minute, Paraguay's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Márcio Seabra fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. In the 85th minute, Peter Mpenza got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Jacobo Nores was a little too slow when Luiz Leo got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 87th minute. The score was now 0-11. The crowd rose to their feet as Márcio Seabra kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Jacobo Nores. That made the score 0-12 in the 91 minute of play. In the 94th minute, Luiz Leo reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Jacobo Nores. The goal made the score 0-13.
