When Daniel Zorita came up free with the goalie in the 6th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daniel Zorita couldn't finish the play. Muqui FC's Best Taffarel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 11th minute of play. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 17 minutes play. Camilo Gisbert hit a great ball. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luiz Fernando de Azevedo in the 18th minute of play. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Murilo Eger in the 19th minute of play. In the 21st minute the ball was on its way in behind Muqui FC's goalkeeper Best Taffarel, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Camilo Gisbert got a free kick in the 24th minute. Best Taffarel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Felix Montenegro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 31st minute, Daniel Zorita ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Best Taffarel was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gabi Orange in the 33rd minute of the match. Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 42nd minute. Best Taffarel tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 45 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Gabi Orange came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gabi Orange in the 47th minute of play. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Daniel Zorita was the one to do the kick off. When Gabi Orange fell near the penalty area in the 50th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Muqui FC's protests and gave Gabi Orange a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Muqui FC's Gabi Orange got a free kick in the 50th minute. After 53 played minutes Muqui FC got a freekick which was hit by Murilo Eger. 56 minutes into the match, Muqui FC's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Sancho came free, but Best Taffarel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Juan Sebastián Puig struck a weak shot in the 58th minute. Best Taffarel didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. When Cristian Sancho came up free with the goalie in the 61st minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cristian Sancho couldn't finish the play. Muqui FC's Best Taffarel proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 63rd minute of the match, managed to save Muqui FC from getting a goal against them. Juan Sebastián Puig's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Best Taffarel read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 68th minute of play. In the 69th minute of the match Ecuador got a corner. Muqui FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Daniel Zorita ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Muqui FC's goalie and right to Felix Montenegro. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Muqui FC's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. In the 72nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Muqui FC's goalkeeper Best Taffarel, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Best Taffarel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luis Andino in the 73rd minute of play. In the 74th minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Daniel Zorita went to the cornerflag to take it. A nice corner shot did that Daniel Zorita got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Best Taffarel quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Patrick Amaral, who was totally free with the ball in the 75th minute. Daniel Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 78th minute. Best Taffarel tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luis Andino in the 81st minute of play forced Muqui FC's goalkeeper Best Taffarel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a little luck, Muqui FC's Best Taffarel got control of the ball when Daniel Zorita tried to sneak it across the goal line. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 89th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Best Taffarel having to interfere. Cristian Sancho might have been able to make a better finish in the 91st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Best Taffarel. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Cristian Sancho ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 95th minute, Daniel Zorita got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The Muqui FC fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Ecuador were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
