In the 16th minute of the match Panama got a corner. Borussia Dortmund's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Abraham Alguacil ran over to the corner to take the kick. After 19 minutes of play, Borussia Dortmund's Baltazar Clavijo made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Marcos Cotilla was left in no man's land by his defense there! With a couple of smart ball manuevers Astor Odol in the 23rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Marcos Cotilla saved Panama from getting behind. Marcos Cotilla showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tomas Levander in the 25th minute of the match. Borussia Dortmund were awarded a corner in the 26th minute after Panama's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Yakup Sargut took the corner. Panama's Marcos Cotilla played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Baltazar Clavijo in the 46th minute of play. Disappointed in the 1-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

In the 51stth minute of the game Tomas Levander who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Panama's Marcos Cotilla was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Fernando Grover scored 1-3 in the 53rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Marcos Cotilla, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The supporters of Borussia Dortmund booed when Panama was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 61 match minutes in a wonderful position. Felipe Ros didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Borussia Dortmund's Baltazar Clavijo in the 82nd minute got a chance for a shot 82nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Panama's goalie prevented a goal. Marcos Cotilla came out of the goal in the 83rd minute to try and stop a shot by Borussia Dortmund's Fernando Grover. But to his dismay, Fernando Grover quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-5. Baltazar Clavijo took the ball and in the 86 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Marcos Cotilla. Marcos Cotilla dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-6. Borussia Dortmund made a substitution. Fernandez Quintairos replaced Tomas Levander. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fernando Grover in the 91st minute of play forced Panama's goalkeeper Marcos Cotilla to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Borussia Dortmund's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
