Cristian Sancho's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ivo Guterres read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 6th minute of play. 9 minutes into the game, Abílio Passos recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Julio Vera. Abílio Passos showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-0. SC Freiburg 09's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Mehmet Ferit İsmet in the 14th minute. SC Freiburg 09's Mehmet Ferit İsmet was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Julio Vera in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Abílio Passos hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. 23 minutes into the match, SC Freiburg 09's goal looked a bit too open when Felix Montenegro came free, but Ivo Guterres reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ivo Guterres made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 24th minute of play. Ivo Guterres took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 30 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Raul Leal came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 32nd minute Raul Leal shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. SC Freiburg 09's Ivo Guterres played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 38th minute of play. SC Freiburg 09's Raul Leal got a good chance for a goal in the 41st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 41 minutes into the match, SC Freiburg 09's Raul Leal sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 43 minutes into the match, SC Freiburg 09's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Ivo Guterres reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 43 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Cristian Sancho. Luis Andino received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Ivo Guterres tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Raul Leal was the one to do the kick off. In the 51st match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Agustín Saelices to maneuver through the defense. Mehmet Ferit İsmet took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 51st minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Julio Vera. Ecuador's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Raul Leal in the 53rd minute of the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Abílio Passos in the 56th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Daniel Zorita blasted a shot towards the goal in the 57th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Ivo Guterres having to make a save. Cristian Sancho struck a weak shot in the 59th minute. Ivo Guterres didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. The supporters of Ecuador booed when SC Freiburg 09 was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mehmet Ferit İsmet didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 72nd minute, Raul Leal got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. A collision led to SC Freiburg 09 getting a freekick after 76 minutes play. Caio Sampaio hit a great ball. Nuno Bragança hit a great freekick 80 minutes into the match. In the 88th minute the ball was on its way in behind SC Freiburg 09's goalkeeper Ivo Guterres, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Raul Leal took the ball and in the 90 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Julio Vera. Julio Vera dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. When the referee blew the final whistle, SC Freiburg 09 could leave the field as winners, despite Ecuador having more of the ball for most of the match.
