The supporters of Venezuela booed when Estudiantes de la Plata was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 3 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fulgencio Norino didn't get a good kick on the ball. Estudiantes de la Plata's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Tomas Illescas ran over to the corner to take the kick. Luciano Urtungo succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 1-0 in the 19th playminute. The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Tomas Illescas stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 89th play minute Tomas Illescas came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Fausto Weterio. 4-2. When Patricio Costa came up free with the goalie in the 92nd minute, the Venezuela fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Patricio Costa couldn't finish the play. 97 minutes into the match, Estudiantes de la Plata's goalkeeper Fausto Weterio had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Tomas Illescas.
