In the 26th minute, Felix Montenegro left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Ecuador fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. Albérico Igrejas showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Agustín Saelices in the 28th minute of the match. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Albérico Igrejas showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. Hermano Novais hit a great freekick 46 minutes into the match. After the first half Ecuador were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

In the 51st match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Primitivo Andino to maneuver through the defense. 58 minutes into the match, Sport Maia's goalkeeper Albérico Igrejas had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cristian Sancho. 63 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Albérico Igrejas narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 80th match minute, Sport Maia was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hermano Novais to maneuver through the defense. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Cláudio Santos during the 81st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 82nd minute, Cláudio Santos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 91st minute. Albérico Igrejas tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Sport Maia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Apolo Bihar didn't get a good kick on the ball. When the final whistle sounded Ecuador left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Sport Maia.
