The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 46th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Felix Montenegro to maneuver through the defense. Zisis Chronidis succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 2-1 in the 48th playminute. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Daniel Zorita to make the kick off. Argyris Ksagorarakis, 92 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Daniel Zorita recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 94th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Allan Corrigan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When the referee blew the final whistle, Panionios MK could leave the field as winners, despite Ecuador having more of the ball for most of the match.
