Ray Clemence tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 44 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by John Aldridge. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Daniel Zorita made a kick off. In the 57thth minute of the game John Aldridge who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ecuador's Julio Vera was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nilson Snabl in the 65th minute of play. Manly FC's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Alexander Arnold in the 67th minute. Manly FC's Alexander Arnold was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Julio Vera in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. In the 69th minute, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-1. Ray Clemence was a little too slow when Cristian Sancho got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 76th minute. The score was now 0-2. Manly FC's Fleming Wal was substituted for Jasmine Kaine. 87 minutes into the match, Manly FC's John Aldridge sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Ecuador's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
