The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Orlando Tafalla during the 5th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 4th minute of the game. One of Colombia:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Atlético Nacional:s goal. Colombia:s Pedro Manzanares showed great skill when he stopped Carlos Alberto Azevedo:s penalty. Pedro Manzanares took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Vicente Sasoin, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Carlos Alberto Azevedo did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 1-0 to the left of a surprised Pedro Manzanares 11 minutes into the match. 16 minutes into the match, Colombia's goal looked a bit too open when Carlos Alberto Azevedo came free, but Pedro Manzanares reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Pedro Manzanares was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Primitivo Mendez showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-0 in the 18 minute of play. In the 23rd match minute, Atlético Nacional was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Serafin Theodore to maneuver through the defense. Axel Montenegro took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 23rd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Teodoro Peio. Atlético Nacional's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Teodoro Peio took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Axel Montenegro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 25th minute Colombia were awarded a corner. Axel Montenegro went to the cornerflag to take it. After taking down the ball on Colombia's corner Axel Montenegro fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Teodoro Peio quite easily take care of the ball. After a rather tough play, Atlético Nacional's Serafin Theodore got a free kick in the 27th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Atlético Nacional's zone, Axel Montenegro stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Teodoro Peio came out of the goal and Axel Montenegro tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Nicanor Karmel hit a great freekick 30 minutes into the match. In the 42nd minute, Santino Seco hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 47th minute, Carlos Alberto Azevedo ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Pedro Manzanares was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-1. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-1 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Abram Sarmiento was the one to do the kick off. Teodoro Peio made an important save on a dangerous shot by Axel Montenegro in the 54th minute. Axel Montenegro struck a weak shot in the 56th minute. Teodoro Peio didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Colombia. When Axel Montenegro came up free with the goalie in the 59th minute, the Colombia fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Axel Montenegro couldn't finish the play. In the last second Teodoro Peio throw himself and got hold of the ball when Abram Sarmiento in the 62ndth minute from his position got away a shot towards the right post. Teodoro Peio showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Axel Montenegro, who was totally free with the ball in the 65th minute. Atlético Nacional's Teodoro Peio proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 67th minute of the match, managed to save Atlético Nacional from getting a goal against them. Teodoro Peio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Abram Sarmiento in the 69th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Axel Montenegro got free with Teodoro Peio in the 76th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 81 minutes into the game, Abram Sarmiento recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Teodoro Peio. Abram Sarmiento showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 3-2. Colombia's Ignacio Mastache was substituted for Abram Sarmiento. Colombia made a substitution. Abram Secada replaced Axel Montenegro. After having played for 88 minutes, Kevin Mastache managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Colombia's supporters crossed their fingers, but Kevin Mastache was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The crowd rose to their feet as Colombia's Abram Secada slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Teodoro Peio. That made the score 3-3 after 91 minutes of play. Abram Secada could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 97th minute of the match, but Teodoro Peio made a huge save. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
