An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Zorita in the 31st minute of play forced The Cavern Club's goalkeeper Tomás Esiquio to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Ecuador booed when The Cavern Club was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 32 match minutes in a wonderful position. Geronimo Vincente didn't get a good kick on the ball. When the final whistle sounded Ecuador left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than The Cavern Club.
