After some fancy dribbling in the 18th minute, Ian Bastow managed to get in a good position for a shot. Carlisle United's supporters rose to their feet, but Ian Bastow was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Marek Szostak breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Martyn Heslop in the 22nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Marek Szostak saved AIF from getting behind. The Carlisle United fans' excitement grew in the 22nd match minute when Carlisle United's Martyn Heslop looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. A sloppy throw-in by Jo Higson in the 31st minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by AIF's Birger Engström. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bror Skoog in the 33rd minute of play forced Carlisle United's goalkeeper William Kenworthy to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Henning Strandberg had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. AIF's Bror Skoog got a good chance for a goal in the 40th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 汪希瑜 fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without William Kenworthy having to interfere. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

With a couple of smart ball manuevers Bror Skoog in the 51st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg William Kenworthy saved Carlisle United from getting behind. In the 52nd match minute, Carlisle United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nicky Titmuss to maneuver through the defense. William Kenworthy came out of the goal in the 55th minute to try and stop a shot by AIF's 汪希瑜. But to his dismay, 汪希瑜 quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. 61 minutes into the game, 汪希瑜 cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-3. William Kenworthy was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 汪希瑜's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 65thth minute, William Kenworthy skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Hugh Tyson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 68th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. If 汪希瑜 had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 75 minutes into the match, AIF's goal looked a bit too open when Ian Bastow came free, but Marek Szostak reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 83rd minute, Carlisle United's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Bror Skoog fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. 83 minutes into the game, 汪希瑜 cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-5. William Kenworthy was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 92nd minute, 汪希瑜 got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 93rd match minute, Carlisle United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nicky Titmuss to maneuver through the defense. Carlisle United's defense didn't have a chance, in the 95th minute, when Henning Strandberg scored to the left of an out of position William Kenworthy, making the score, 1-6. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched AIF eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
