The supporters of Ecuador booed when SS SuperSonics was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 5 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bogumil Misiorowski didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Felix Montenegro in the 6th minute of play forced SS SuperSonics's goalkeeper Hugon Lenertej to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 17th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After 18 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for SS SuperSonics! Hugon Lenertej took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Felix Montenegro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. SS SuperSonics's Hugon Lenertej played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 21st minute of play. Cristian Sancho recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 23rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Hugon Lenertej showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Felix Montenegro, who was totally free with the ball in the 25th minute. In the 26th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hugon Lenertej saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The SS SuperSonics fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Hugon Lenertej should have stopped the shot. The SS SuperSonics players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Ecuador were winning 0-2.

51 minutes into the match, SS SuperSonics's goalkeeper Hugon Lenertej had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Agustín Saelices. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Luis Andino in the 52nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Hugon Lenertej prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Ecuador's Luis Andino managed to work through SS SuperSonics's defense and was going for an easy goal, but he hit the shot with his toe and the ball flew outside the goal. Luis Andino dejectedly held out his arms as if to ask why the ball hadn't gone in. Cristian Sancho's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 56thth minute, Hugon Lenertej skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Hugon Lenertej showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luis Andino in the 57th minute of the match. 59 minutes into the match, SS SuperSonics's goalkeeper Hugon Lenertej had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Daniel Zorita. After a rather tough play, SS SuperSonics's Szczepan Opat got a free kick in the 59th minute. Hugon Lenertej came out of the goal in the 64th minute to try and stop a shot by Ecuador's Daniel Zorita. But to his dismay, Daniel Zorita quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-3. In the 67th minute of the match, Agustín Saelices got a very nice opportunity to score, but Hugon Lenertej was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Cristian Sancho in the 73rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Hugon Lenertej prevented the ball from getting in the gole. With a little luck, SS SuperSonics's Hugon Lenertej got control of the ball when Daniel Zorita tried to sneak it across the goal line. SS SuperSonics's Hugon Lenertej proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 79th minute of the match, managed to save SS SuperSonics from getting a goal against them. Ecuador's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
