Basílio Martins's late challenge caught a Ecuador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Basílio Martins helped the player get up and apologised. Ecuador's Diego Mancebo was substituted for Luis Andino. Basílio Martins hit a great freekick 13 minutes into the match. Paredes Soberano stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Daniel Zorita's shot from short distance in the 15th minute. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Julio Vera made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. Paredes Soberano showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 87th minute of the match. With an all-out effort, Ecuador's Paredes Soberano threw himself towards the right post 90 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Diego Mancebo, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. In the 93rd minute, Franciszek Topolski ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Julio Vera was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-1.
