In the 10th minute Tomas Illescas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Leonardo Paz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A collision led to Palmares Futebol Clube getting a freekick after 11 minutes play. João Vítor Sena hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tomas Illescas in the 12th minute of play forced Palmares Futebol Clube's goalkeeper Leonardo Paz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Palmares Futebol Clube getting a freekick after 12 minutes play. Alfredo Botelho hit a great ball. Jonathan Ferrant took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from João Vítor Sena, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 17 minutes into the game, Alfredo Botelho was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Palmares Futebol Clube's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Venezuela the free kick. After a rather tough play, Palmares Futebol Clube's Alfredo Botelho got a free kick in the 17th minute. Tomas Illescas's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Leonardo Paz read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 24th minute of play. Palmares Futebol Clube's Leonardo Paz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tomas Illescas in the 28th minute of play. Leonardo Paz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tomas Illescas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Venezuela were awarded a corner in the 31th minute after Palmares Futebol Clube's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Tomas Illescas took the corner. A nice corner shot did that Tomas Illescas got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Leonardo Paz quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Túlio Maravilha was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 38th minute. Palmares Futebol Clube's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. After a defensive mix-up in Palmares Futebol Clube's zone, Patricio Costa stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Leonardo Paz came out of the goal and Patricio Costa tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Ricardo Barreto hit a great freekick 46 minutes into the match. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The wind increased when Túlio Maravilha made the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Palmares Futebol Clube booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Guillermo Mariano didn't get a good kick on the ball. 53 minutes into the match, Palmares Futebol Clube's Luisinho Nogueira broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Jonathan Ferrant took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from João Vítor Sena, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tomas Illescas got free with Leonardo Paz in the 59th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 63rd minute, Tomas Illescas got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Palmares Futebol Clube's zone, Tomas Illescas stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Leonardo Paz came out of the goal and Tomas Illescas tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Palmares Futebol Clube made a substitution. Thomás Maia replaced Luisinho Nogueira. After 68 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Camilo Gaos. After a rather tough play, Venezuela's Tomas Illescas got a free kick in the 74th minute. Camilo Gaos charged in rather forcefully in the 77th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Camilo Gaos the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 77th minute, Camilo Gaos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Jonathan Ferrant took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dário Moreira, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Tomas Illescass short, quick shot in the 81stth minute got Leonardo Paz to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. After a defensive mix-up in Palmares Futebol Clube's zone, Tomas Illescas stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Leonardo Paz came out of the goal and Tomas Illescas tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Túlio Maravilha scored 1-0 in the 90th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jonathan Ferrant, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Jonathan Ferrant showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Túlio Maravilha in the 93rd minute of the match. João Vítor Sena struck a weak shot in the 96th minute. Jonathan Ferrant didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Palmares Futebol Clube.
