Patricio Costa's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Eduardo Pereyra read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 6th minute of play. A collision led to New York Red Bulls getting a freekick after 7 minutes play. Maxim Tadici hit a great ball. Patricio Costa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 8th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jose Correa hit a great freekick 12 minutes into the match. In the 13thth minute of the game George Schiau who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 18 minutes into the match, New York Red Bulls's goal looked a bit too open when Patricio Costa came free, but Eduardo Pereyra reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some careless play in the New York Red Bulls defense, Patricio Costa kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Eduardo Pereyra. The New York Red Bulls fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Eduardo Pereyra should have stopped the shot. Jonathan Ferrant showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Berkan Temel in the 22nd minute of the match. 28 minutes into the game, Jonathan Venegas was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Venezuela's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave New York Red Bulls the free kick. After 28 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Jonathan Venegas. Rigoberto Mina hit a great freekick 35 minutes into the match. Jonathan Ferrant came out of the goal in the 36th minute to try and stop a shot by New York Red Bulls's George Schiau. But to his dismay, George Schiau quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. After 40 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Jose Correa. With a little luck, Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant got control of the ball when Basarab Panduru tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Tomas Illescas made a kick off. Jonathan Venegas kicked well hit freekick during the 50th minute of the match. New York Red Bulls's George Schiau got a good chance for a goal in the 51st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Eduardo Pereyra showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tomas Illescas in the 59th minute of the match. Jonathan Ferrant showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Basarab Panduru in the 63rd minute of the match. Venezuela's Patricio Costa got a good chance for a goal in the 66th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from George Schiau in the 73rd minute of play. After having played for 75 minutes, Berkan Temel managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. New York Red Bulls's supporters crossed their fingers, but Berkan Temel was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Basarab Panduru in the 77th minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 80th minute, Berkan Temel ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jonathan Ferrant was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. Venezuela's Patricio Costa got a good chance for a goal in the 84th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 85 minutes into the match, New York Red Bulls's goal looked a bit too open when Tomas Illescas came free, but Eduardo Pereyra reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jonathan Ferrant showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Doru Coman, who was totally free with the ball in the 86th minute. Patricio Costa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
