In the 6th minute of the match Lokomotiv Plovdiv got a corner. Ecuador's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Hélder Lago ran over to the corner to take the kick. After taking down the ball on Lokomotiv Plovdiv's corner Mirolyub Dragoychev fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Julio Vera quite easily take care of the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Daniel Zorita in the 9th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Krum Nikolchov prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 10th minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Daniel Zorita went to the cornerflag to take it. The audience was convinced that Luis Andino's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Krum Nikolchov was relentless in the 10th minute of the game. In the 13th of the match, Mirolyub Dragoychev tried to place the ball in the upper right corner, but Julio Vera got in the way and made a wonderful save. The goalkeeper smacked the ball away after a great corner, but Lin Feng Xi advanced and headed the ball into goal, 1-0 in the 14th minute. Zdzislaw Obuchowicz recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 18th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 23rd minute Felix Montenegro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Krum Nikolchov saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Felix Montenegro in the 26th minute of play forced Lokomotiv Plovdiv's goalkeeper Krum Nikolchov to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 28 minutes, Daniel Zorita made it 1-1 with a short kick to the right side. Lokomotiv Plovdiv's Krum Nikolchov tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. A collision led to Lokomotiv Plovdiv getting a freekick after 47 minutes play. Yulian Florov hit a great ball. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Sven Brask made a kick off. After 54 played minutes Lokomotiv Plovdiv got a freekick which was hit by Mirolyub Dragoychev. In the 59th minute, Agustín Saelices hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Zdzislaw Obuchowicz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 65th minute, Zdzislaw Obuchowicz ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Julio Vera was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. Lokomotiv Plovdiv made a substitution. Facundo Nazario replaced Sven Brask. In the 74th minute, Agustín Saelices got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Daniel Zorita who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 85thth minute tested the skills of Krum Nikolchov when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Facundo Nazario sent away a hard shot on goal in the 86th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Krum Nikolchov in the 90th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Lokomotiv Plovdiv was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 92 match minutes in a wonderful position. Simon Wells didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 97th minute Lokomotiv Plovdiv were awarded a corner. Hélder Lago went to the cornerflag to take it. Ecuador's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
