The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Jesus Gartxot came out of the goal in the 5th minute to try and stop a shot by Peru's Julian Murillo. But to his dismay, Julian Murillo quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Anthony Alvarado hit a great freekick 8 minutes into the match. 12 minutes into the game, Peru's Julian Murillo nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Jesus Gartxot made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. In the 16th minute of the game Marco Frutos made a throw-in which Krzysztof Bielejewski played forward. Julian Murillo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 18th minute. Jesus Gartxot tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some careless play in the Racing Club defense, Julian Murillo kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jesus Gartxot. The Racing Club fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jesus Gartxot should have stopped the shot. Racing Club's Jesus Gartxot played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Julian Murillo in the 25th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Racing Club's Marco Frutos got a free kick in the 26th minute. In the 31st minute Eliseo Mina shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jesus Gartxot saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Peru's Luz Tejedor was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Jesus Gartxot in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Andrzej Debkowski might have been able to make a better finish in the 40th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Rolando Noboa. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Andrzej Debkowski ran back to his position shaking his head. Jesus Gartxot showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eliseo Mina, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. Peru's attack was well implemented in the 42nd minute, but when Eliseo Mina was about to shoot he didn't get a good hit on the ball and it hit the crossbar and flew over. Goal Kick.

Jesus Gartxot took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Eliseo Mina, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 52 minutes into the match, Julian Murillo dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Jesus Gartxot, 0-5. Jesus Gartxot was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Luz Tejedor showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 0-6 in the 55 minute of play. In the 62nd minute, Peru's Julian Murillo ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Jesus Gartxot. Jesus Gartxot yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-7. Eliseo Mina might have been able to make a better finish in the 64th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Jesus Gartxot. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Eliseo Mina ran back to his position shaking his head. 66 minutes into the match, Peru's goal looked a bit too open when Urbano Jago came free, but Rolando Noboa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 67 minutes Peru's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Gustavo Pacifico who took care of the corner kick. Gustavo Pacifico made a great header on Racing Club's corner, it was just that Peru's Rolando Noboa managed to reach the ball for a save. Jesus Gartxot showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Julian Murillo, who was totally free with the ball in the 70th minute. In the 72nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Racing Club's goalkeeper Jesus Gartxot, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Peru's Julian Murillo got a good chance for a goal in the 74th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar.
