The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Sakarias Koch received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 52nd minute. Ricardo Zorita tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 53rd minute, Qi Sha Zhen ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ricardo Zorita was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. Ricardo Zorita took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Hu Sheng Nan, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Moises Fernandino struck a weak shot in the 58th minute. Christer Forsberg didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for El Salvador. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Marco Tamayo during the 90th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 91 played minutes El Salvador got a freekick which was hit by Marco Tamayo. El Salvador's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
