The referee ignored Cebollas's protests and gave Senen Zafrilla a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Venezuela booed when Cebollas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. Senen Zafrilla didn't get a good kick on the ball. 25 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goal looked a bit too open when Agamenón Gutierrez came free, but Jonathan Ferrant reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 32 minutes into the game, Cebollas's Agamenón Gutierrez nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Venezuela's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Agamenón Gutierrez was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-0.
